Welcome to BBBS of Anderson & Franklin Counties

Greetings! This is the home of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Anderson & Franklin Counties. We are very glad that you decided to learn more about our program and how you can help to make a difference in a life of an Anderson County child. You can use this site to inquire more about our community based mentoring program, as well as learn about upcoming events and how you can get involved. You may even sign up online to become a “Big” or enroll a child.

Highlights:

On December 7th BBBS of Anderson & Franklin Counties held their first Christmas Party and Recognition Banquet. The event was held at American Eagle Distribution Center, which is our biggest sponsor. AE provided dinner for all who attended. Sponsors, Bigs, Littles, and board members were invited to the party. Awards were presented to our Bigs and sponsors in appreciation for their support. Everyone enjoyed a presentation by Director Jenni Keith, and BFKS Chairperson Cheryl Strobel summarizing the events of 2007. Afterward, Santa Claus showed up and all of the kids got a chance to tell him their Christmas wishes. The event turned out to be a lot of fun and we look forward to having an even better time in 2008!

This October we took a group to the pumpkin patch in Lawrence. There were 22 people who came along this time. All of the Littles got to pick out their own pumpkins, and had two tries on the pumpkin sling shot. They also had fun on the playground and in the hay maze. Everyone said they had a good time, and we look forward to going back next year.

BBBS of Anderson County has had a very active summer. In July, we held a Barbecue for all Bigs, Littles, and Littles in waiting. Those who attended enjoyed some good food, much of which was donated by our local Country Mart. Afterward, everyone joined in on a game of water-balloon volleyball. There was close to 40 people at this event and it was fun for everyone!

In August, BBBS took a trip to Kansas City to watch a T-Bones baseball game. It was a hot day, but we enjoyed it none the less. There were about 40 people who came to this event as well. Thanks to Cheryl Strobel, who provided bus transportation for the whole group!

This September kicks off the start of Anderson County’s Bigs in Schools program. We currently have five matches ready to go, and several more in the process. We hope to continue growing this program in the future! Click on Volunteer Options for more information about this program.
