Christmas with BBBS and Phi Delta Theta
Christmas – often thought of a time with family where we can openly appreciate the ones we love. This is viewed by many as the most important holiday, in regards to personal beliefs and social beliefs. Time is taken out of our busy schedules to slow down and give thanks for the things that we are grateful for. Sometimes however, it often appears as if the things that would be worth giving thanks for are so far away. Well as Southwestern College a young group of men have teamed up to show their thankfulness by helping out others. Phi Delta Theta, a fraternity established over a hundred year and present in Winfield for near 15 years, is made up by a fine group of young men. This chapter of Phi Delta Theta is made up of many different traditions from across the nation. Aver a three day period, from December 12th to the 14th; these men brought together their favorite parts of the Christmas holiday together to pass on to ten youth across Cowley County. Our
board of directors is comprised of 15 members that represent Arkansas
City, Winfield, and the surrounding areas. The program has served
over 300 kids since 1994, and our longest running match is still
going and has been for over eight years. We started Bigs in Schools
the fall of 2001 and Pass It On in the spring of 2003.
How
you can help:
We are looking
for a larger office space closer to downtown. Ideally, we would
like to have 3 separate rooms for offices, along with a reception
area and room to hold meetings in. We also have comprised a wish
list with the following items: copying machine & office supplies.
Volunteer to be a Big Brother or Big Sister, organize an activity
for our Little's on our waiting list, be a board member, serve on
our screening commitee screening potential volunteer's files .
There are 100
youth in Cowley County that have requested mentors and our vision
is to provide all of the youth in need, with healthy mentoring relationships.
