Types:
Big
Brother—A man who is matched with a Little Brother
and spends time in the community doing fun activities.
Big
Sister—A woman who is matched with a Little
Sister and spends time in the community doing fun activities.
Family—A
married couple with children who are matched to a child and together
spends time with the child in the community-based program. The
child gets two mentors and their children to spend time with
and forms relationships with all.
Couple—A
married couple that is matched to a child and together spends
time with the child in the community-based program. The child
gets two mentors to spend time with and forms relationships with
both.
Summary
of Community-Based BBBS Program:
Volunteer
and child spend time together 2-3 hours a week, 3-4 times a month.
They may do things as simple as washing the car or mending a
fence; shooting hoops or sharing a meal. The focus is on the
volunteer(s) and child forming a solid friendship. Volunteers
are at least 16 years of age, a junior in high school, and have
a valid drivers license. Children can be matched with men, women,
couples or families in this program. |
