Volunteer Options

Community-based matches can be individual, couples or family. In a community based match a child and the volunteer spend 2-3 hours a week, 3-4 times a month together doing simple activities such as car washing, mending a fence, shooting hoops or sharing a meal. The important aspect is not the activity, but rather the building of a long, term, solid friendship. Volunteers are at least 16 years of age, a junior in high school and possess a valid drivers license.

Big Brother or Big Sister: A Little is matched with an adult of the same sex who has gone through a careful screening process.
Couples Match: A husband and wife who have no children or whose children are raised are matched with either a boy or girl.
Family Match: A husband, wife and their children are matched with either a boy or girl to become a family match.

Bigs in Schools matches meet 30-90 minutes each week either at the child’s school or after school in a designated place. The child and the volunteer may use the time to eat lunch, read, play games or spend the time visiting. Volunteers must be at least 15 years of age and a sophomore in high school.

Throughout the year we have a variety of activities where additional “ears” are needed. Please watch our calendar for such events and a chance to experience for yourself the joys of mentoring.
