David Segui Women and Youth Celebrity Hunt

November 23, 2002

Four matches from Sedgwick Co. and a waiting Little from Hays hunted pheasants with David Segui and a number of other celebrities on a beautiful November Kansas morning near Glen Elder Reservoir. This was the 5th year for the event, put on by Kansas Wildlife and Parks and the Waconda Lake Association. After a hearty breakfast prepared by local residents, the hunting party divided into several smaller groups to walk prime habitat around Glen Elder Reservoir, maintained by Kansas Wildlife and Parks.

Following the morning hunt, lunch was provided by the Waconda Lake Association. An afternoon of trap shooting was enjoyed by all, followed by a banquet that evening of fried catfish, chicken and quail with all of the fixin's.

In addition to the five BBBS hunters, twenty three Littles on the waiting list came up to participate in the trap shoot and evening's banquet. The Ark Valley Chapter of QU bought lunch for the Littles that came up to shoot trap.

Little Terry Dutton bagged his first pheasant on the hunt. Many of the Littles that participated in the trap shoot were first-time shooters.

The celebrities signed what must have seemed like endless requests for autographs without flinching. And the Littles had a great day of it all!

At the banquet that evening, Mel Gray's hunting vest (Mel was a wide receiver and kick return specialist for the Lions and Cardinals) was signed by all of the celebrities and auctioned off to the highest bidder. The proceeds were donated to the BBBS Pass It On program.

David Segui and a Little shooting trap. The trap shooting ran from 1:00-5:00, and most of the Littles went from shooting to getting right back in line to shoot again. In addition to all of the smiles, we suspect there were a few sore shoulders as well.

David Segui and Terri Ivens, "Simone" from the daytime soap opera All My Children, spend time with Littles from Sedgwick Co.

Assisting with the afternoon's trap shoot were members of the local National Wild Turkey Federation and Pheasants Forever chapters. They didn't have a break all afternoon long as the shooting went non-stop!

Jerry Holloway, former Cardinals tight end, and Eric Williams, former Cardinals linebacker, with their hunting party. Judging by the pile of pheasants, they did quite well!

Over 30 young hunters, including 5 BBBS Littles, participated in a pheasant hunt with David Segui, 1st baseman for the Baltimore Orioles, and a number of other athletes.
