Ducks 'n Bucks Duck Hunt

Ducks n Bucks Outfitters from Wellington, KS invited KS BBBS to hunt ducks with them along the Salt Fork River north of Cherokee, OK. Jere Schwardtfeger and Austin Slanker were the guests of Brady Walker for this hunt. Two other Littles were scheduled to make the trip, but unfortunately, a mix-up in meeting at the rendezvous point caused them to miss the hunt.

Despite Brady's worries that it was much too nice a day for a duck hunt, Austin managed to bag his limit of five mallards on a beautiful sunny December morning. Byron Schrag, host of Diamond Adventures, was along on the hunt, taping for an upcoming show for his cable TV program. In all, 17 mallards were brought to bag by the group of hunters. And no one was wearing a bigger smile than Austin.

With Brady and his assistant calling the ducks into the decoys and Brady's black lab, Meat, bringing the downed birds to hand, they put on quite a demonstration of how an experience duck hunter and his dog could bring in the game.

Jere and Austin spend a good deal of their time together outdoors hunting and fishing, but Jere indicated that they had not been duck hunting prior to this hunt. Watching the mallards flock in to the decoys has surely changed his mind about doing more duck hunting in the near future!
