End of Season
Upland Hunt
Jan. 25, 2003 near Cheney Lake
Eleven Littles, along with
volunteers from Quail Unlimited and Young Hunter Safety, Inc.
traveled to a field just south of Cheney
Lake to enjoy a morning of quail hunting. For seven of the
Littles, this was their first hunt ever!
QU & YHSI
volunteers took special care insuring that all of the Littles
remembered their hunter safety instruction (the new
hunters had passed their hunter safety course the previous weekend).
Thanks to Circle JM Game Farms for donating 50 quail for the hunt.
The birds were scattered in the field and the Littles followed
the dogs as they hunted 'em up! Once the dogs went on point, one
Little was given a shell to load, and then stepped forward to flush
the bird, all the time accompanied by his Big/volunteer.
While some Littles were in the field, the others received shooting
instruction to sharpen their wingshooting skills. KDWP loaned BBBS
an automatic trap that was kept busy throughout the morning throwing
clays for the Littles to practice on.
Thanks go to
QU & YHSI for providing volunteers for the event,
to KDWP for loaning us the trap and providing boxes of clays, and
to Circle JM Game Farm for donating the quail!

For seven of the Littles, this was their first hunt and for
four of those, it was their first time shooting a shotgun.
A bit of time shooting clays helped to sharpen their aim! |
