BBBS of Crawford Co. Hosts fishing BFAD

August 3, 2003

On a very warm August Sunday afternoon, fourteen boys ranging in age from 7-12 gathered to fish at Lakeside Park in Pittsburg, KS. The event was sponsored by Big Brothers Big sisters of Crawford County. Several potential Big Brothers were invited to share the fun!

The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks provided rods and reels for all who needed them. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Crawford County provided worms and lots of cool water.

The adults were grouped with the boys to assist those who had never fished before. One Little Brother had more experience than his Big Brother and got to be the teacher. Several of the Little Brothers had never fished and were thrilled with every catch. All were proud of their catches and understood the need to release them for continued growth. The youngest participant, age 7, caught the biggest fish.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Crawford County caught three potential volunteers that day. One has completed an application and two are giving the experience some serious consideration.
