Training Hunt
Jan.
31, 2004
BBBS
of Sedgwick County hosted a Training Hunt for those hunters who
had passed their Hunter Education class but had not yet had the
opportunity to go afield hunting upland game. Assisted by members
of the local Pheasants Forever and Quail Unlimited chapters, and
by their Hunter Education instructors, Bigs and Littles alike put
their classroom instruction into practical application in the field.
It
was a cold and wintery morning, but, everyone enjoyed themselves,
learning to bust clay targets and getting to watch some quality
dog work in the field. And some of the hunters got to take home
quail for supper that night!

Everyone was bundled up, cause it was cold! A light freezing
mist fell all morning long, but everyone had a great time
any way! |

A Little is getting ready to break the incoming target! |

Mike
is showing this Little just how the gun should be mounted.
|

Mike
is showing this Little the proper shooting stance. |

Here are two hunters with their prized bag. Someone
is having quail for supper!
|
Volunteer
Dan is shown with one of the Brittanies that were working
the birds for the new hunters.
|

A
Big is helping a Little move in on a pointed bird while
the dog handler looks on.
|

Gene
is shown giving the young hunters last minute instructions
before following the dogs after the birds.
|

DeVante
says, "That last one kicked a bit!"
|

Big
smiles were on everyone's face as everyone was enjoying
the day outdoors!
|

Once
the shooting skills were practiced, an exciting game of
Knockout sharpened everyones shooting.
