Fly Fishing w/Flatland Fly Fishing Club

The Flatland Fly Fishing Club hosted an evening seminar on...of all things...Fly Fishing! Members of the club worked with 7 matches from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sedgwick County as they learned the how's and wherefore's of fly fishing.

Ryan Allred, club president, was on hand to get the ball rolling. After a casting demonstration by Eric Schmidt, each match paired up with one or two club members to give it a go. The club provided loaner fly rods and reels and flies for the matches to use for the evening. Everyone caught fish, which made for a fun evening for everyone.

Volunteer Eric Schmidt gave the matches some instruction on the different casting techniques.

Little Dana is shown trying his hand at putting that fly just where you want it.

Volunteer Ken McKloskey, know as Mr. Fish around Kansas, is shown helping a Little with some of the subtleties of the sport.

The Flatland Fly Fishing Club members had a good turn out, providing lots of expertise for the BBBS matches to learn about the sport.

Little Calvin is trying his hand at casting as Big Jim and a volunteer from the Flatland Fly Fishing Club look on.

Some of the fish caught weren't big ones, but the smiles were!
