Training Hunt, 8/4

Wichita Patrol West hosted a Hunters Education class on July 30-31, and as a follow-on to that class, took Bigs and Littles on a training hunt the following Wednesday evening. Assisted by members of Young Hunters Safety, Inc. and volunteers from the local Safari Club International, recent graduates were given shotgun shooting instruction and then taken to the field for a controlled hunting experience.

This is part of a 4-part series of events involving Wichita Patrol West. Later in the month, they are hosting a Dove Hunting Clinic to get everyone ready for the opening of dove season on September 1st, when volunteer police officers will join with waiting Littles for an evening dove hunt.

Thanks to Young Hunters Safety, Inc. and the volunteers from Wichita Patrol West and SCI for making this a great time for everyone!

New hunters were started off with some clay target shooting before going to the field.	Several of the new hunters were Bigs. And not all of them were men!
Once everyone had a chance to get comfortable, a little game of "knock-out" kept everyone busy until they went to the field.	In the field, Carl Conley and Steve Brodie provided hunting dogs that gave everyone a chance to experience an upland hunt.
Under the watchful eye of the volunteers, Little Brandon went 3 for 3 on his chances to bring home dinner!
