BBBS of Seward Co Training Hunt, 10/17

October 17, 2004

Four Littles from Liberal were joined by 10 members of the Seward County Junior College for a training hunt, have attended a hunted education class the previous day. Coach Galen McSpadden and his assistants were onhand for the activities as well. Ready to put what they learned in class to work in the field, everyone had a safe and fun afternoon.

Before heading to the field eveyone spent time honing their shooting skills. KDWP made available an automatic trap for the event. KDWP also provided loaner youth model shotguns for the event as well.

Groups of 4-6 hunters would go to the fields at a time, giving everyone plenty of opportunities for a shot. Coach McSpadden and Stan Boles served as hunt masters for each group while Mike Christensen, BBBS Director of Outdoor Mentoring Projects, worked with the others on their shooting skills.

Once everyone had the shooting basics down, a spirited game of knock-out ensued. Little Jaimie was soon showing his natural shooting ability, often knocking out the ballplayers. (We won't name names here...but you know who you are!)

Thanks to Stan Boles, who made his controlled shooting area available to the group for the afternoon's activities and to Cimarron Valley Game Birds for providing pheasants for the hunt.
