First
Friends Campout, July 9-10
Pass It On Coordinator,
Chip Martin, and the BBBS staff took twelve First Friends to Lake
Brownwood for an overnight campout, July 9-10. Southern Hills College
Ministry provided Bigs for the day to sponsor this event.
After piling
out of the vans, the First Friends were matched and began setting
up their tents. Rusty Emmons, Match Support Coordinator, began cooking
hot dogs and hamburgers for the hungry group.
As the temperature
rose, Natalie Hedges, Enrollment and Matching Coordinator, led the
group to the swimming area to cool off. Everyone then enjoyed cobbler
and a devotional time led by Southern Hills.
Ginger Owens,
Program Director, awoke at sunrise to begin cooking breakfast burritos
for the rested gang. Southern Hills started the day with game of
popping the balloon tied to someone’s ankle, followed by a
water balloon fight. Everyone was already wet, so they jumped in
the water for another swim.
Lunch was followed
by Chip Martin demonstrating ways to start a fire without matches
and how to produce drinkable water. Sarah Rock, Match and Enrollment
Specialist, sent all the matches on a Scavenger Hunt which ended
in a tie between two matches.
After one more
swim, the group headed home after a great weekend.
