Pass
It On Match Campout, 5/21-22
Great
weather greeted 20 campers for a campout at Abilene State Park on
May 21&22, 2004. Campers arrived at the remote camping area
in Abilene State Park and begin setting up camp for the weekend.
Eight matches and 4 staff/volunteers begin the campout with KP and
cleanup assignments.
Tents
locations were picked, tents set and dinner was started. Pass It
On instructor, Chip Martin, instructed the group in outdoor survival
tips and techniques, including fire starting exercises. The next
morning campers awoke to sausage, eggs and tortillas. After breakfast,
a game of “Run For Your Life” was played which demonstrates
the relationship of prey and predators and how good wildlife habitat
levels the field for all wildlife species. The next adventure was
a nature walk, on which we learned about plants and their relationship
to wildlife and how to enhance wildlife populations by managing
plant communities.
Lunch was served as we broke camp and cleaned up our camp-site.
Most campers took the time to test their fishing skills at the buffalo
wallow prior to heading home.
