High
School Volunteering
High School
students make a tremendous contribution to Big Brothers and Big
Sisters. Not only do they serve as mentors and tutors
but they also support the agency behind the scenes in many
important ways. We encourage you to consider any of the following
opportunities to help us fulfill our mission of making a lasting
difference in the lives of children in Sedgwick County.
Site-based
Match. Meet with a child 30-90 minutes once a week at a
school to work on homework or basic skills, play board games, shoot
baskets, do arts and crafts, etc. Volunteers are at least 15 and
finished with their freshman year.
High
School Bowl for Kids Sake. If you’d like
to help raise money to support high school matches, go
to www.sgbfks.kintera.org,
join your school’s team and e-mail friends and family
to support you. For more information on BFKS, click
here.
High
School Council. The High
School Council is a
dynamic group of sophomores, juniors and seniors from 20 Sedgwick
County
high
schools. The
group
gathers monthly to share what’s going on at their schools,
provide feedback and exchange ideas for recruiting and retaining
top quality high school mentors, tutors and other volunteers for
Big Brothers Big Sisters.
