Options
Match
Types:
Brother -- A man who is matched with a Little Brother and spends
time in the Community- or Site-based program.
Sister --
A woman who is matched with a Little Sister and spends time in
the Community-
or Site-based program.
Family --
A married couple with children who are matched to a child and
together spends time
with the child in the community-based
program. The child gets two mentors and their children to
spend time with and forms relationships with all.
Couple -- A married couple who is matched to a child and together spends
time with the child in the community-based program.
The child gets two mentors to spend time with and forms
relationships
with both.
Summary
of Programs:
Community-based
-- Volunteer and child spend time together 2-3 hours a week, 3-4
times a month. They may do things as simple as washing the car or
mending a fence; shooting hoops
or sharing a meal. The focus is on the volunteer(s) and child forming
a solid friendship. Volunteers are at least 18 years of age and
have a valid drivers license. Children can be matched with men,
women, couples or families in this program.
Bigs
in Schools -- Volunteer and child
spend 30-90 minutes a week at the child’s elementary
or middle school sometime during the school day, or after
school at some schools. Matches
may eat lunch or read together, work on math, general
homework or study skills, do arts and crafts projects,
shoot baskets,
play board games, or just visit about things that
are on the child’s mind. Volunteers must be at least
18.
Match
Options:
RSVP/Experience
Corps -- Intergenerational volunteers
who have reached the age of 50 serve as mentors to Littles
in any of our programs.
These
volunteers
are passionate, active, energetic, experienced and
committed to making a positive contribution to a child. The volunteers
have a lot to share
and children are
anxious to learn from them.
Malisa’s
Hope -- Children in any of the programs can be matched
with a mentor who has indicated an interest in participating
in a faith-based match. In a Malisa's Hope match, Bigs and Littles
share their faith with each other. Community-based Malisa's Hope
matches may attend church activities together. Malisa's Hope
matches will be invited to special Malisa's Hope events and community
service projects. Participation for parents, Littles and Bigs
is voluntary.
Mi
Amigo -- This program
matches Hispanic children with Hispanic volunteers
in any of the programs.
Pass
It On -- The Pass It On program matches Littles with an interest
in the outdoors with caring adults who want to "pass On" their
passion for the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, shooting sports,
water sports, hiking, camping, birdwatching are just a few of
the options that let the Little enjoy the wonders of the great
outdoors.
Kevin
Easter Cops For Kids -- This
unique collaboration with law enforcement brings
both matched and waiting youth together with
local police officers, sheriff’s
deputies, state troopers, etc. Activities for
these matches are designed to break down the communication
barriers
between youth from high-risk
backgrounds and
the people who enforce the law.
High
School Bigs -- The High School Bigs program matches
high school students with children in the site-based program. High
School matches may
also be part of Malisa's Hope, Pass it On or Mi Amigo. High School
students are also welcome to volunteer in the office, at special
events and in other ways. |
