Volunteer Options

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Scott, Greeley and Wichita Counties provides one-on-one adult volunteers for school-aged boys and girls who just need a little extra attention to make them feel special, who are referred by educators, social workers, counselors, parents, agencies and individuals. By providing positive role models, encouragement, and exposure to healthy activities, these children will develop positive habits, attitudes, and better self esteem, thereby realizing their potential as adults.

Match Types:

Big Brother -- A male who is matched with a Little Brother and together they spend time in the Community or at a site.

Big Sister -- A female who is matched with a Little Sister and together they spend time in the Community or at a site.

Couple -- A married couple who is matched to a little brother or sister and together spends time in the community. A child gets two mentors to spend time with developing a relationship with both.

Family -- A married couple with school aged children who are matched to a little brother or sister in the community. The little spends time with both the adults and children to form a relationship with all.

Community-based -- Volunteer and child spend time together 2-3 hours a week, 3-4
times a month. They may do things as simple as washing the car or baking cookies; playing catch or sharing a meal. The focus is on the volunteer(s) and child forming a solid relationship. Volunteers are at least 17 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, and undergo a screening process. Children can be matched with men, women, couples or families in this program.

Bigs in Schools -- Mentor and child spend 30-60 minutes one day a week at a specific site, (etc). Schools or churches, working on what the child needs most. Mentors may go before, during or after there school or work time. Activities vary depending on the site but may include eating lunch or reading together, working on math, general homework or, doing arts and crafts projects, shooting baskets, playing board games, or just visiting about things that are on the child’s mind. Mentors are at least 15 years of age and a sophomore in high school. We are currently offering this program at the Elementary and Middle Schools of Scott, Greeley and Wichita Counties.

Match Options:

Mi Amigo -- This program matches Hispanic children with Hispanic mentors in any of the programs.

Pass It On -- The Pass It On program matches children with an interest in the outdoors with caring adults who want to "pass on" their passion for the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, shooting sports, water sports, hiking, camping, bird watching are just a few of the options that let the Little enjoy the wonders of the great outdoors.
